{"id":75,"date":"2026-09-15T18:01:01","date_gmt":"2026-09-15T18:01:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.giselleliu.com\/?page_id=75"},"modified":"2026-09-21T22:11:03","modified_gmt":"2026-09-21T22:11:03","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/giselleliu.com\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I was raised in Prince Rupert, on Ts\u2019msyen territory, where I continue to live and work, and I also live and work in Richmond, on the unceded traditional territories of the Musqueam, Tsawwassen, and Kwantlen peoples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These places have shaped how I understand movement, land, relationship, and creative practice. I hold gratitude for the Indigenous peoples who have cared for these lands since time immemorial, and I recognize the responsibility of living and working here with respect, attention, and reciprocity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Movement has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Growing up in a small community, dance was one of the places I could go to understand what I was feeling before I had the language for it. It shapes the way I communicate, perceive, and experience the world. Dancing beside the ocean or near a waterfall can feel like prayer, a way of honouring the places I have the privilege to walk through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some of that relationship I keep for myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I do not need every movement experience to become performance. There is something important to me about allowing part of this practice to remain private and sacred, while creating dances, projects, and experiences that invite others into their own relationship with movement, story, and attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted has-medium-font-size\"><strong><em>Movement is, in many ways, my mother tongue.<\/em><\/strong><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Words have not always been my first or most precise form of communication. I have learned over time what needs to be said, but I still trust movement to reveal, expose, and communicate things that language cannot always reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That understanding sits underneath everything I do now, whether I am working in creative direction, community arts, facilitation, or choreography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My practice has developed across Canada and Asia, and my background includes a BA in Dance, an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts, and an MA in Expressive Arts Therapy.
